River City Rifle & Pistol Club Promoting
Conservation and the Shooting Sports in North Iowa Since 1968 October
2009 Monthly Newsletter Saturday September 12th the range hosted two shoots.
In the AM there was an action pistol match. Richard Grant reported there were fourteen shooters participate. In the afternoon
there was an appreciation trap shoot held, the turn out was a little low (eight shooters, including one junior and one women).
Jim Christiansen was the winner with Northwood Kensett junior Adam King a close second. Everyone had a good time and Pam Hays
served burgers and bratwurst after the shooting was over. Sunday was the last 22
rim fire rifle silhouette shoot - there were two shooters. These matches were well attended all summer but everyone must have
had a full Sunday planned the 13th. Matt Smith and Todd Cash still had a good time. Last weekend we held a vintage military rifle match on Saturday. I sound like a broken record but the attendance
was low at five but we had a wide assortment of old military rifles - anything from a Swiss K-31 to an M-14. There were some
terrific scores shot with these old rifles. This was a good excuse to get them out of the closet and dig up some ammo and
shoot them. Sunday we held our last high power rifle match of the year. There were
seven competitors with Jim Soderstrom winning the match with a 770-15X shooting an AR-15 service rifle. The range has looked so good all spring and summer we need to carry this into the fall and winter months. This will be the last meeting held at the outdoor range - beginning with November's
meeting we will be at Lime Creek Nature Center. I need to emphasize that our shooting
hours are dawn till dusk except Sundays and holidays when they are 8am till dusk. Also we need to sign in with our complete
name or first name and ID tag number - please try to write legibly. Safe shooting and see you at the meeting.
